Customizing Merriment

Go to Appearance → Customize to change Merriment’s look. You can preview every change before you publish it.

Header image

Merriment comes with a snowy header image, with your site title shown over it. To use your own, open Theme: Header → Header Image and upload a new one. The recommended size is 1600 × 400 pixels, and the header is flexible, so other sizes work too.

Background

Merriment’s default background is a holly pattern that stays fixed while the page scrolls. To change it, open Theme: Global → Background Image. You can upload a different image or remove it.

Layout

Open Theme: Content → Layout and choose the Global Layout for your site:

Left Sidebar
Right Sidebar (default)
No Sidebar

Menus

Under Appearance → Menus you can assign two menus:

Primary Navigation: shown below the header. On larger screens, items with sub-items open as dropdowns. On small screens, the menu is behind a Menu button at the bottom left.
Social Navigation: shown in the footer. Add links to your social profiles, and Merriment shows an icon for common sites.

Widgets

Under Appearance → Widgets you’ll find two widget areas:

Primary Sidebar: beside your content, unless you chose No Sidebar.
Footer Sidebar: in the footer of every page.
