Hosting

Every Luthemes theme runs on ClassicPress, so the first step is a home for your site. Here’s what to look for, a few hosts that make ClassicPress easy to set up, and how to install it.

What to look for

ClassicPress runs on almost any standard web host. Make sure your plan includes:

  • PHP 7.4 or later. PHP 8.4 or later is recommended.
  • MySQL 5.7 or later, or MariaDB 10.4 or later.
  • Apache, Nginx, or LiteSpeed.
  • A free SSL certificate, so your site loads over HTTPS.
  • Softaculous in cPanel, for a one-click install. ClassicPress is only included in the premium version of Softaculous, so if it’s important to you, ask the host whether ClassicPress is in their app list before you buy.
  • Daily backups you can restore yourself.

Recommended hosts

Shared hosting is great for most blogs and personal sites: it’s affordable, and the host takes care of the server for you. If you’re comfortable managing a server, a VPS gives you the most control.

Installing ClassicPress

With Softaculous:

  1. Log in to cPanel and open Softaculous Apps Installer.
  2. Search for ClassicPress and click Install.
  3. Choose your domain, set your admin username and password, and click Install.

By hand: download ClassicPress from classicpress.net, upload it to your hosting account, create a database, and visit your site to run the installer. This works on any host that meets the requirements above.

Next steps

Once ClassicPress is up and running, pick a theme from the portfolio. If you’re not sure where to start, try Prismatic, our flagship theme. Then follow its documentation to install and customize it.
