Prismatic
Prismatic is a clean, minimal, and modern theme for ClassicPress, perfect for blogs or personal sites. It features a two-column layout with a customizable sidebar and a real focus on readability and content presentation.
Prismatic is a parent theme. What this means is that to customize it, you should be creating a child theme. All you need to know is that it is a solid, flexible starting point for any blog or personal site.
Features
Prismatic is built on the rock-solid Backdrop Framework, so it provides a great starting point with many useful features.
- A left or right sidebar layout for your whole site.
- Page templates for individual pages: Showcase, Left Sidebar, Right Sidebar, and Custom Sidebar.
- A Showcase front page with Introduction, Portfolio, and Blog sections you turn on in the Customizer.
- Backgrounds: a solid color, your own image, or dozens of built-in patterns, with a live preview.
- A custom header image and header colors, plus footer colors and your own footer credit.
- A settings page to choose a custom 404 page and turn off emoji scripts, the front-end toolbar, and embeds.
- Primary and Social menus, and three widget areas: Primary, Subsidiary, and Custom.
- Featured images, threaded comments, and translation ready.
For step-by-step guides, read the Prismatic documentation.
Child themes
Since Prismatic is a parent theme, you'll want to create a child theme if you plan on making any customizations. Don't know how to make a child theme? It's relatively simple. Just follow the below steps.
- Create a theme folder in your
/wp-content/themesdirectory calledprismatic-child. - Then, create a
style.cssfile within your theme folder. - At the top of your
style.cssfile, add the below information.
/** * Theme Name: Prismatic Child * Theme URI: https://link-to-your-site.com * Description: Describe what your theme should be like. * Version: 0.1 * Author: Your Name * Author URI: https://link-to-your-site.com * Tags: Add, Whatever, Tags, You, Want * Text Domain: prismatic-child * Template: prismatic */
Template must match the parent theme’s folder name, prismatic. From this point, you simply need to start adding your own styles. The Prismatic parent theme styles will automatically be loaded for you.
